{inspire} Why I Heart Vintage

August 4, 2010

Candice McGourin of apt22 on Etsy tells us why she loves vintage ~

The term vintage conjures up different images for different people. For some, the idea of vintage is an old box of junk sitting in their mother’s attic that has been gathering dust for twenty years.

For me, it is something completely different. I can’t explain the thrill I get from entering a thrift or antique store and finding an amazing piece of clothing or item for the home that is from a completely different time and place.

I love the little piece of history that each item I find represents. You may never know the story behind an item, but you know that there is one.

Today we live in a culture of throw away clothing and “Made in China” luxuries; people don’t hold on to things anymore… I love the idea that a woman kept the dress she wore 50 years ago to a school dance and that now I can give that dress a new life and a new story. That is why I love vintage…

I love vintage too because it is like one of a kind and it brings you back to that era when one wears a item from that time period .

These are lovely reasons. My daughter too loves vintage a lot. I’m not sold on the idea but definitely not against it either.
