Many small business owners are hesitant to run their own giveaways because they’re not sure how they work or how to best leverage them to potential customers and/or visitors.

If you’ve recently entered a giveaway here on IndieSpotting, you used a relatively new service called Rafflecopter.

I’ve run over a hundred giveaways here, and all I can say is Rafflecopter is that heaven sent! Rafflecopter creates a little widget that you can just pop into a blog post, and it does the rest of the work. No more cluttered comments sections or complicated entry forms.

You’ll need to sign up for a free account with Rafflecopter, but then creating giveaways is a snap. They recently redesigned the tool so that contest entrants can login with their Facebook accounts (this is an amazing feature, trust me), or with a name and email address.

You can assign any number of giveaway entry options with ease, ranging from following someone on Twitter to liking a Facebook page. Rafflecopter tracks all the entries (and you can export the entries to Excel or other programs in a .CSV file after the giveaway ends), and it makes choosing a winner at random and notifying them via email so easy.

If you have any questions about how Rafflecopter works, please don’t hesitate to ask me. As someone who has run many, many giveaways the “hard way,” I can’t recommend this service highly enough!
